Graduation and Celebrations in Ijevan July 2019

Disclaimer: Before I write this story dear reader, I must write an important disclaimer.  The story will include my getting sunburned and dehydrated.   When my dear friend Narine, who sent me on this latest adventure, saw my sunburned face the next day she was upset and felt it was her fault.  She and Erine, the two young women who arranged for me to attend, hold no responsibility for my stupidity.   I am, unfortunately, not blessed with beautiful Armenian skin or even the olive tones of my own brother and sister.  I have always been the fair-skinned pasty-faced member of the family who gets redder while everyone else turns a beautiful tan.   My siblings told me it was proof that I was adopted.   So, Narine and Erine, my redness was my fault alone and thank you for having me in attendance. Week 3

The End of Week Three I am wrapping up second full week of training as a Peace Corps trainee (PST we are called in the vernacular.) I must complete ten weeks of language, culture, and what ever other challenges are placed before me in order to become a Peace Crops Volunteer (PCV). My first day was spent in Washington D.C. where I met the rest of the team and we had our first day of training.  I am working with an amazing cohort of young people varying from recent college graduates to people early in their careers of some type of service.  I am the only person retired and not planning what job I will seek after my years in the Peace Corps.  The group was very welcoming to me and several of us went out for dinner.  The next day and a half was all travel.  We left the D.C. hotel flew all night  landing in the morning in Pairs.  I did not get to pick my seat so I was in a center row in the middle.  The little boy in front of me dropped his seat o...

Facebook Postings and Adventures with Hasmik

1. August 12, 2018: Okay today, on another adventure with  Hasmik Azibekyan , as we were making one of the last turns in to town, her car made a loud noise and skidded . You can see the front wheel. One of the bolts to the tie road had shaken loose from its nut and the wheel collapsed partially. Too many potholes in the roads. I got out and saw immediately the problem. Hasmik called for help and I walked a little way up the road and found the bolt but not the lock nut. In a few minutes, the  ever-powerful Hasmik had eight guys there jacking up the front of the car and replacing the missing nut, one was glad I had found the bolt. Thirty minutes later, we were on our way. We were so lucky that it shook loose so close to town. What if Ani and Hasmik had been somewhere way out on a road? The roads in Armenia need serious repair.
